President Ford and Soviet leader Leonid Brezhnev announced a landmark arms reduction treaty in Vladivostok. The pact imposes numerical limits on intercontinental ballistic missiles and other strategic weapons, signaling a major step in Cold War détente.
Seven others died in weekend floods as 10 passengers rode in a car swept into Dry Creek. Vicki Slezak swam for help but lost her 5 year old son and four others as an 8 year old girl remained missing. Rescuers found seven bodies including Linda Scheumack and her children.
Tunisian officials arrested four Palestinian hijackers who abandoned their threat to blow up a British airliner in exchange for asylum. The four left with seven other terrorists who had been flown to Tunis from Egypt and the Netherlands. the crew and passengers were unharmed. The government denied a written agreement and said a decision on the hijackers’ fate would come later in consultation with Arab governments and the PLO. Explosives experts cleared the jet of active devices.
United Mine Workers negotiators with some Ford administration help won further concessions from the coal industry in a proposed three year contract. Arnold Miller must win approval from the 38 member bargaining council before sending it to 120,000 members who struck on November 12. Details were not released pending council meeting.
Temperatures in the Middletown area are predicted in the teens overnight. Clear skies are expected with a low between 15 and 20. Sunday's high was 58 with an overnight low of 34. Rain totaled 0.45 inch. Tuesday's forecast calls for sunny skies and a high in the mid to upper 30s.

Nelson Rockefeller expressed gratitude and confidence in the medical team as physicians confirmed a small focus of malignant cells, previously dormant, in the right breast.
