Reduced Price Not Moving Sheet Steel In Cleveland
Orders for finished steel rise from late summer lows but buyers hold back large quantities of hot rolled carbon steel sheets at the reduced price. The price dropped to 88.50 per ton, with potential 2 percent December shipments. Industry says inventories remain high and some orders may cancel if prices rise before rolling begins. Raw production could increase by about 10 percent by year end, with Nov and Dec output around 9 to 10 million tons. Net steel production the week ended Nov 23 was 2.22 million tons, up 1.2 percent from the prior week.
