Changes in basketball rules bring prep games closer to Olympic play

The new prep and college rules loosen fouls before the fifth personal foul. Free throws stay two shots for shooting fouls and non shooting fouls. If no free throws, the fouled team gets out of bounds possession, changing how high school and college games unfold.

Hands Off Rule Changes for Basketball Court Behavior

Officials will enforce stricter conduct this season to curb rough play. A defender must keep hands off offensive players and a fouling player must raise hands in a sportsmanlike gesture without extraneous motion. Offensive players should not reach behind to gauge guard proximity.

Rules changes aim to curb fouls and backcourt moves

The rules address faking fouls to draw charging calls, issuing warnings to players and coaches for a first offense and fouls on a second. Other changes include a modified three second rule, backcourt restrictions on jump ball receivers, and clear guidance on ball handling after catching in the forecourt or backcourt.
