Desert Areas Hit By Snow Stranding Hunters and Drivers

A Sunday blizzard across northern Arizona stranded hundreds of motorists and hunters and left 13 missing in the Kingman area. The Arizona Highway Patrol closed U.S. 66 and State Route 93 as snow drifts up to two feet blocked roads. all were found by nightfall. A Prescott teacher, Callie Mae White, 20, died when her car slid off Arizona 6 near Prescott.

Autumn Drought Still Harrasses Eastern Areas

CHICAGO AP. Forest first continued to ravage woodlands in the eastern half of the nation amid a record drought. Rainfall eased parts of the Midwest but not enough to end weeks of dry conditions. Communities sought federal relief, farmers watered livestock, and officials planned alternate supplies while crops wilted. The Midwest saw rain relief and a cold front was forecast. floods occurred in northeast Kansas with four inches of rain, and temperatures remained warm east of the Mississippi with records set in several states including Louisiana Tennessee Arkansas and Texas.

Johnsons Return to White House After Election Victory

President Johnson and First Lady land at the White House after a Texas ranch trip. Louisville teachers ended an eight day strike after voters rejected a tax referendum to raise pay. The Louisville Federation of Teachers said it would push to organize and increase membership as they resume classes. About 75 teachers attended a meeting where Joseph Cascella urged a return to work.

Louisville teachers stage walkout over bargaining agency

The Louisville Education Association with about two thirds of the city’s 1 892 teachers was denied permission to act as bargaining agent by the Louisville Board of Education. A one day walkout closed all Louisville schools. The LEA plans petitions for an election to choose representation. The first walkout was on Nov 4 and participation fell from more than 300 on Nov 10 to under 100 by Friday.

Mystery Bonanza Flight 114 Vanishes Over Nevada Desert

Searchers traced a crash area eight miles south of Arden after a Bonanza Airlines F27 bound from Phoenix to Las Vegas disappeared from radar near 8:27 p.m. Witness Bob Baker reported a plane 70 to 100 feet off the ground with one landing gear down heading southeast. Snow and icy roads hindered rescue efforts as McCarran Field closed and another Bonanza plane operated from Nellis Air Force Base while terrain and surrounding mountains framed the search.
