Huber would abolish Un-American Committee
Democratic Rep. Huber of Ohio vows to renew efforts to end the House Un-American Activities Committee and replace it with a joint Senate House Civil Rights Committee. He introduced the bill last February, but it died in the House Rules Committee and he plans to reintroduce it at the start of the new Congress. He argues the current committee has become a political football and performs little worthwhile work. The proposal envisions investigating communism and other groups such as fascists, the Ku Klux Klan, and the Columbians.
