Obesity weighs on airlines raising fuel and costs
A government study shows rising American weights push more fuel use and higher flight costs. In 2000 extra pounds per passenger increased airline fuel burn by 350 million gallons, costing about $275 million, with 3.8 million extra tons of CO2 emitted.

SANTA MARIA Calif a judge on Thursday rejected a defense effort to remove the district attorney in the Michael Jackson child molestation case on the grounds that the pop star had been the victim of an overzealous prosecution Judge Rodney Melville said the law is clear that the only way he could remove District Attorney Tom Sneddon and his office is if a conflict existed where the defendant could not receive a fair trial He said no such conflict existed Jackson's lawyer Thomas Mesereau Jr said Sneddon and his office had spent more money pursuing Jackson than they had on the cases of serial killers showing that they had lost perspective.

Rescue suspended as cave search for trapped Mexican brothers ends
Heavy rains forced the Mexican Red Cross to halt efforts to reach five and six year olds trapped four days in a deep Chiapas cave. Officials said visibility was near zero and hopes faded as rescuers worked with Pemex equipment near the cave mouth in Jedhich village, 60 miles northeast of Tuxtla Gutierrez.
