Major Barratt Released by Syrians After Detention
Maj. Richard Barratt, US Army assistant military attaché in Amman, was released after over seven weeks in Syrian detention and arrived in Beirut. Embassy sources say he is in excellent health, has some weight loss and needs a haircut, and will soon fly to Washington. Barratt, 36, from Laramie Wyoming, was arrested Sept. 9 amid tensions following an Israeli air raid days earlier. Syrian officials alleged espionage.
