Cardboard Box Wasn't Empty

In Middletown New York a large cardboard box blocked a driveway. Mr and Mrs Joseph Strakowski moved it aside with a push. Inside the box were Eugene Draper six Dwight Draper four and Carl Baumgardner ten. The Draper boys suffered severe cuts and bruises while Baumgardner was unhurt.

Nation's Worst Takes 6 Lives

A six fatal crash near Cambridge Ohio on Memorial Day weekend involved a tractor trailer and a car on U S 40. Six airmen from Clinton County Air Force Base, aged 17 to 21, were killed after the car, driven on the wrong side of the two lane highway, collided head on with the truck. The truck driver survived with injuries. who was driving the car may never be known.

In Gagnon Quebec a forest fire aided by dying winds and light rain forced air evacuations of about 500 people including women and hospital cases. Some 4 of evacuees were moved to Montreal and 90 to Sept Iles as officials warned winds could shift. About 1,000 firefighters stopped the blaze within 100 feet of the town and authorities expect conditions to ease with showers and westerly winds.

Dark Cloud Brunswick twister hits Medina area

In Medina Brunswick a small tornado touched down causing a garage to be flattened and trees to fall. Large hailstones damaged roofs while shingles were ripped from houses. An observer described a funnel that dipped to earth in two spots. No injuries were reported.
