Burg Youth Picked Up In Fracas

A Miamisburg youth, Joe Lakins, 20, was picked up on a disorderly conduct charge after a Friday night shooting near Franklin. Victim Frank Glenn, 21, remains in satisfactory condition with a bullet wound to the right thigh. Lakins is jailed in Warren County as investigation continues into the Silver Bar brawl that led to the shooting. Donald Boles, another Miamisburg man, is jailed on concealed weapon charges after a .22 pistol was found in his car. Two Franklin men were also questioned.

Ohio Bell workers win wage hike and benefits

Ohio Bell Telephone Co and 17 000 Communications Workers of America members reach a new labor pact after an all night bargaining session. The agreement grants an average hourly wage rise of about eight cents and numerous fringe benefits, with the old contract expiring at midnight Saturday. The company says the concessions may cost about 3 million dollars annually. Union leaders note failure to secure an open shop requiring union membership after 30 days.

Dog Warden Receives Radio Transmitter for County Use

Butler County Commission provided two way radio equipment to the dog wardens. Transmitter and tower installed at the Animal Shelter on Hamilton Trenton Road. The system aids emergency communications with deputy wardens in dog ambulances and field operations. Channel No K Q K 356 opens 8am to noon and 1pm to 5pm. public office hours unchanged.

German Defense Minister Strauss to visit United States

Defense Minister Franz Josef Strauss will visit the United States from June 7 to June 20 at the invitation of the U.S. government. He will tour Army, Air Force and Navy installations and meet U.S. officials during the trip.

Woman Forced Into Car Struck, Robbed in Warren County

A 21 year old local woman was forced into a car by three sailors near Central Avenue at 2 45 am. She was taken between Sikestown and Lebannon, assaulted, robbed of 90 dollars, and later treated at a doctor’s office in Lebannon before being returned to Middletown by ambulance. Police noted one man wore a sailor’s uniform and all claimed ties to a base at San Pedro California.

Purses Stolen From Two Middletown Women

Two Middletown women reported purse thefts by teenage boys over the weekend. Wanda Lansow, 33 Yankee Rd, said one suspect grabbed her purse at Fifth Avenue and Yankee Road. another boy may have injured himself when he fell. Joan Jones, 1011 Columbia Ave, said a 14 year old took her purse on N Broad Street, with papers and license inside. Police could not locate suspects.

Washington AP reports a Census Bureau survey of 35 000 households finds nearly two of three American homes consistently receive daily or Sunday newspapers by home delivery. The data, collected last year, show about 23 percent of households subscribed to both daily and Sunday papers, excluding newstand and street sales.

Mrs Dorothy Brelsford Brayton traveled from Cro nulla NSW Australia to attend the Middletown High School class of 1935 reunion Saturday at the Manchester Hotel. About 180 attendees came from New York Illinois Michigan Kentucky and Pennsylvania. Teachers included Miss Baker Miss Haueisen and Mrs Lingrel plus Mrs Neal J Onthe ag. Children Start Fire Police Briefs

Police investigated a fire last night at Proffitt Grocery and at Phil Trimble's home with no thefts. Two men, Earl Frazier and George Reece, were arrested for drunkenness. A series of thefts including hubcaps and a chain saw totaling 320 dollars were reported after a false alarm sent fire crews to multiple streets.

Littles Near Top In Family Contest

The Kent Little family of 3009 Grand Ave. was named one of the top six in the All-American Family Search. They finished about fourth or fifth after traveling from Kent to Lehigh Acres, Florida for finals with 50 states and the District of Columbia. The Littles joined other families in forums to pick the outstanding family. The Eugene Scalise family won first, with second place to the Joseph Whitmore family and third to the Monroe Paxmans.

Unofficial census figures released from Springfield show Warren County at 65 733, up from 38 505 in 1950. Lebanon gains to 5 987, Franklin to 7 918, Middletown area towns Oxford Eaton near 5 000, Oxford at about 7 500 with student population excluded. City Manager At Hamilton Due Tuesday

Hamilton appoints Aaron Marsh as city manager with oath set for Wednesday at 9 30 AM in the city manager's office. Marsh, formerly Florence South Carolina manager since 1964, is vacationing with relatives after his daughter's illness. Howard F Wilson, serving since 1957, remains on vacation. Armco Police Nab 4 Youths at East Works Parking Lot

Armco police arrested four Middletown youths on trespassing and petit larceny charges after hub caps were stolen from Armco property at the East Works parking lot Saturday night. Jodie Jone Jr. 19 and Donald Stringer Jr. 22 plus James C. Richards 22 were released on bonds to appear in Municipal Court tomorrow. a juvenile was taken to Butler County Juvenile Detention Center.

Tragic Route 4 Crash Kills 8 Year Old Norman Strunks

Norman Strunks II, age eight, died after running from a driveway into a westbound car on Stahlheber Road near Hamilton. The incident marked Butler County’s rising Memorial Day traffic toll as Ohio reported multiple crashes and injuries on Rt. 4 and Rt. 747. The Lakes family also suffered serious injuries in a two car crash, while patrols reported 97 arrests since Friday in drive to curb holiday traffic incidents.

Two Middletown traffic injuries reported by police

Two Middletonians were slightly injured in city traffic accidents yesterday. Rosemarie Steel, 40, suffered a neck pain after a collision at Yankee Road and Curtis Street involving a stopped station wagon driven by Benjamin Morea. Jimmie Anderson, 17, faced an assured clear distance violation charge. A bicycle rider, Joyce Ramsey, 8, was treated for contusions after a collision with a car driven by Hazel Haught on Fairmount Avenue. Police charged Simpson Hood with failure to yield after a collision with Louise Gardner on Main Street. Total damages listed at 70 and 195 dollars for two incidents. minor accident also investigated.
