Washington reports that the trucking industry purchases about two million trucks and trailers annually. Registrations of new units in 1969 totaled 1,888,812 trucks and 171,789 trailers, reflecting a high level of freight capacity and commercial vehicle activity nationwide.
The city council adopts Ordinance 5292 to declare unneeded parts of Lots 14569 and 14570 as not required for public purpose. It waives real estate disposal procedures and authorizes conveyance to abutting property owners, declaring an emergency for quick action.

Washington AP The Office of Emergency Preparedness announced a major voluntary program to conserve electric power as a solution to anticipated summer shortages. OEP Director George A. Lin and a presidential energy board will coordinate efforts by the public, industry, and government at all levels. The plan emphasizes peak demand conservation to avert outages, with Virginia Knauer leading public efforts aided by EPA and the National Bureau of Standards.
Dr Robert P Johnson was unanimously elected by the Ohio State Medical Association as an alternate delegate to the American Medical Association. The Butler County Medical Society notes this is its first AMA delegate assignment. Johnson has long served as a state association delegate since 1967 and as a diplomat of the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology since 1960.
Six area students won state ratings in the Ohio Tests of Scholastic Achievement announced today. Results cover May 1 testing in 25 subjects for grades 8 through 12, with 666 schools represented. Top Middletown area honorees include Jane Tolley Trenton Edgewood fifth in first year biology among 1210 tested Ted Braun Fenwick fifth in first year chemistry among 1030 tested Michael Good Preble Twin Valley South 13th in geometry among 1292 tested Roger Fogle Preble Twin Valley North seventh in first year bookkeeping among 986 tested John Sparks Preble Shawnee seventh in senior social studies among 832 tested Susan Jones Lebanon eighth in first year French among 900 tested. Area students received certificates.
Justice William O. Douglas is at Walter Reed Hospital for adjustment of his cardiac pacemaker. The 72 year old Supreme Court justice underwent a minor procedure Friday and is described in excellent condition. Discharge expected probably this week.
The Supreme Court upheld the right to distribute leaflets criticizing a business even if the owner finds them offensive. Eight to one, Chief Justice Burger delivered the decision in a Chicago suburb case involving Jerome M. Keefe, a real estate broker targeted by Organization for a Better Austin over block busting and race-based tactics.

Memorial Day observances at Moor Pleasant Cemetery near Poasttown will begin at 2 p m this Sunday May 23. For the first time in many years there will be no service inside Mount Pleasant Baptist Church with ceremonies in the cemetery honoring veterans from Revolutionary War to present. An antique Model T Ford donated by an anonymous benefactor will be parked outside the Royal Ontario Ma ja rifle volley buglers taps and color guard will mark the occasion. The car is said to hold artifacts including a Newkirk suit of Japanese armor and an English water clock and elephant hide shields.
