Israel conducts cross border raids in Lebanon

Hostages Freed as Montreal Strike At Aircraft Plant Ends

More than 100 riot police freed 10 hostages held by about 50 striking workers at United Aircraft in Longueuil Quebec. Police used clubs and tear gas. four officers were injured. Jose Ledoux of a local radio station reported from inside the plant as the siege ended.

Pickets disrupt Lucasville Prison as staff protest

Supt. Arnold Jago said 1,519 inmates remained secured by supervisors and volunteers from other shifts. Pickets formed around the maximum security facility last night while Ohio’s Department of Rehabilitation and Correction in Columbus assessed how many of its 600 workers joined the protest. Joe Ashley, a department spokesman, noted several employees call in for shifts but refuse to cross picket lines.
