Rail officials pledge to cut noise in Amanda district
Chessie System officials told Lemon Township trustees they will reduce locomotive idling noise and fumes in Amanda. Fifteen residents protested at the April meeting. A 160 car siding at LeSourdsville aims to curb idling. Trains will not idle during meals or waiting for Armco Steel traffic, and engines stay on when parked due to start-up difficulty.

Lebanon to expand recreation program with joint funding
Lebanon aims to grow its summer and fall activities funded by both the school district and city. More than 700 youths have signed up for summer softball and baseball, with soccer, tiger league football, basketball, gymnastics, arts and crafts, tennis, clinics, and golf on the slate. The 1977 budget totals 30,760 with 13,900 from fees. the city share runs around 16,000. Field and lights work at Wright Berry schools and Roberts Field noted. Bridge work on Mechanic Street may start soon after a 120,434 bid by Paul Lundsford.
