Pay Hikes Proposed by President Johnson in United States
President Johnson asks Congress for 853 million dollars yearly to raise military and federal white collar pay. He urges a three percent across the board rise for civil service postal and foreign service workers, with blue collar pay tied to local wages and top policymakers excluded. Military raises average 4.8 percent for those with two years service and 0.7 percent for those under two years. A four year government wide salary review would compare federal pay with private sector compensation.
