Benefits higher for new Social Security claims

Mary Lloyd Lane of the Hamilton Social Security office says 1952 claimants will see higher benefits, with retired workers likely collecting 20 to 80 dollars monthly and an average around 50 to 60. The 1950 amendments use average monthly wages from 1951 onward, not back to 1937, and benefits require work after 1950. Self employed retirees may see lower benefits if they apply before 1953.

Middletown Democrats Largely Absent in Local Primaries

Middletown turnout was weak with 34.76 percent of registered voters casting ballots in both parties. Democrats outvoted 2 to 1 locally in some county races, backing Earl Hogan for county recorder, Charles Walke for sheriff, and Augspurger and Reiff for county commissioners while endorsing Harry Wilks in the state representative race and supporting Gov. Lausche. In U S Senate races, Michael V. DiSalle led Democratic voting over John Donahey. Democrats also backed Kefauver delegates in local contests as county officials and judges were selected.
