Police found a third Arab terrorist rocket pointed at Jerusalem today, three days after two missiles exploded near an Israeli museum. The Soviet-made Katyusha rocket was mounted on a portable launcher near twin launchers that fired the earlier rounds.
A congressional panel will study Social Security financing after a trustees report showed a larger deficit than expected. The deficit is projected to average about 5.3 percent over 75 years, with calls to consider raising taxes for high earners. House hearings and testimony from Commissioner James Cardwell are planned to assess near term steps while long term shifts due to lower birth rates could raise the burden on workers to support retirees.
A midwinter style spring storm buried northern and central Rockies with six to twelve inches of snow from southern Montana to Colorado and pushed cold air and wind into the Plains. Gusts near Rapid City reached sixty mph, with widespread 40 mph winds across the region. Blowing dust reduced visibility in western Kansas and Nebraska. Thunderstorms and showers extended from the southern Plains into the Midwest and Ohio Valley.
Cloudy skies and lows in the 50s are forecast for the Middletown area tonight with a chance of showers. Highs in the mid 70s are expected tomorrow and the extended outlook calls for a chance of showers Thursday through Saturday.
Horace Huffman of the Dayton Montgomery County River Corridor Committee led a Chamber of Commerce luncheon briefing on the Montgomery County river corridor plan. He outlined river walkway and bikeway projects in Dayton, a river plaza, a low level dam, and seed money from foundations and local groups. Edythe Lewis stressed youth involvement, noting high school and elementary programs planted trees as part of early plan landscaping. About 70 local leaders attended, reacting with enthusiasm. whether the Chamber participates remains undecided.
