A new Germantown Community Help Center at E Center St offers clothes and food and helps with agency applications. Open 8 am–8 pm weekdays and 1–6 pm Sundays, with a grand opening April 9 from 1 to 5 pm featuring free health tests and giveaways.

Alternate farm plan ordered by Carter
The Carter administration announced an alternate plan to boost farm incomes without raising consumer food prices. Mondale and Bergland said it does not need congressional approval and will be implemented through Agriculture Department field offices. The plan includes payments for idling land and higher support prices, with an estimated potential to add up to 4 billion dollars to farmers' 1970s earnings, while not drastically changing food price trends.
