MIGs Fire On U S Ship Off Cuban Coast

The merchant Floridian reported two Soviet built MIGs fired across its bow and stern about 20 miles off Cuba. U S Navy jets arrived 55 minutes later. 15 to 30 explosive shells were fired on the third pass. The incident follows a prior similar attack on a U S shrimp boat.

Priest Dies In Turnpike Crash Near Perry Interchange

A single vehicle crash on the Pennsylvania Turnpike killed Rev. George Matosky 34 of Monessen in Gibsonia. State Police said Father Matosky's car lost control and struck a bridge abutment near the Perry Highway Interchange. he was alone in the car.

Estes Held Guilty In Fraud Case

Ohio River flood damages cut by levee and reservoirs

The 21 day flood along the Ohio River caused about 100 million dollars in damage. Army Engineers credited levees and control reservoirs with saving the valley from about 143 million in additional losses. Col. R W De Lancey cited the measures as key in reducing impact.

No New Tax Required In Road Plans

The Ohio Department of Highways unveils a four year 1.3 billion road program with director Pearl E Masheter stating no extra taxes are needed. Open Line To Moscow Urged In U S Soviet Talks

The United States urged a permanent direct communications link between U S and Soviet leaders to prevent accidental war. Ambassador Charles C Stelle told disarmament talks in Geneva that the line would support teletype and voice use with the U S end at the National Command Center.
