A small group of AFL-CIO Photoengravers Local in New York City voted 191-111 to reject a settlement and extend a strike, delaying eight daily papers. The vote overturned leadership and kept the 75-minute work week cut from taking effect, threatening an indefinite shutdown beyond the papers.

Lorain Ohio Joseph A Bealko age 40 died when a dirt wall around a 20 foot deep ditch collapsed on him Wednesday. Local authorities investigated the trenching accident and the site was secured for safety.
Freeport Kansas AP report of Stanley Duncan dying at age nineteen while sniffing glue. Authorities ruled the death a suffocation from inhaled fumes and not self harming. His parents and relatives lament the tragedy and warn others about glue sniffing risks. Stanley was a multi sport high school athlete who planned to farm with his father.
