Two more deaths on St Patrick’s Day pledge to quell violence surface as Britain and Ireland trade warnings. A 19 year old woman died in a Lurgan public lavatory blast and a Catholic hall death in Ardoyne area raises toll to 278 since August 1969.
Black armbands mark New York and Boston parades mourning 13 Irish civilians killed in Londonderry. Masses led by Cardinal Cooke and Cardinal O’Boyle, with about 120000 marchers in New York. Relief drives launched in Sacramento and Savannah as cities paint streets green and honor Ireland.
Clouds and colder aftenight with showers turning to snow flurries. Overnight lows near 20s. Saturday will be variable with highs around 45. Yesterday's high reached 53 and the overnight low was 38. Middletown recorded about two thirds of an inch of rain.

A US helicopter carrying combat reinforcements crashed into the Dong Nai River 21 miles northeast of Saigon killing all 11 Americans aboard. The downing caused no ground casualties. cause unknown but suspected mechanical trouble. Eight bodies recovered, three missing.
The U S Command said 1 220 troops were withdrawn today as the second large reduction in three days. Eleven Army units began phasing out including two helicopter outfits in Saigon and the Mekong Delta with about 50 aircraft. Total U S strength stood at 114 500 on March 9 with a new total to be announced Monday and Nixon aiming for 69 000 by May 1. Peak strength reached 543 000 in April 1969.

A judge orders hospitalization and a post recovery transfer to Apalachee Correctional Institution for trade training while addressing his medical and addiction needs.
