Democrats In Caucus On State FEPC Bill
Columbus AP Democrats convened a caucus to push passage of the FEPC bill amid party divides. Gov Lausche backs FEPC and called for changes while rules leaders review the measure line by line. Aiming to appeal for support an amended bill may be presented to the caucus. The bill would outlaw racial or religious employment discrimination and create an FEPC Commission with court enforcement powers. It has sat in the House since March 1 after Labor Committee rejection and further proposed changes mirror educational rather than enforcement focus. In the Senate, lawmakers trimmed school tax levy thresholds, lowering operating levy votes to 55 percent at primary elections and 50 percent at general elections for 1949-50 two year cycles.
