Japanese hijack attempt ends after seven hours on Okinawa jet

An 18 year old Japanese hijacker seized a Japan Airlines jumbo jet with 426 aboard but was captured after seven hours at Naha airport Okinawa. Police in disguise brought food to the cockpit and seized the youth who acted alone leaving 264 hostages still aboard.

Two mild quakes hit downtown Los Angeles

Two minor earthquakes struck downtown Los Angeles early today, causing no damage and drawing little attention. A Caltech Seismological Lab spokesman said the first quake measured 3.0 at 12 33 am PDT, followed by a 2.5 five minutes later. A deputy reported a rolling tremor with no damage.
