Ohio withholds support for flood control projects over flood plain rules

The Ohio Department of Natural Resources will not finalize $250 million in federal flood control projects until local communities develop adequate flood plain regulations. Governor Gilligan urged stricter zoning after the West Virginia flood. Projects include Big Darby Lake in Franklin and Madison counties and Mill Creek Lake in Delaware County, with several others across numerous counties affected. Localities can qualify for FEMA flood insurance by adopting proper regulations.
