Man Held Over Kidnapping Claim In Los Angeles Motel
Los Angeles AP detectives investigated a case involving 35-year-old Wilbur M. Whames accused of keeping eight-year-old Noni Gillette overnight in a motel. Noni identified Whames, who had registered under another name, after the motel operator Mary Ellis provided the license number. Whames allegedly picked Noni up after dancing school, took her to a theater then the motel. Noni said she was urged to undress and share a bed, but officers said no abuse occurred. Noni was later released near her home. Whames stated he had separated from his wife four months earlier.
