Viet Cong troops seized a hospital run by American doctor Patricia Smith in Kontum, 275 miles north of Saigon, blew up operating and X-ray rooms and fired into wards. A second German nurse and two Montagnard workers were abducted while Smith and other staff escaped to a secure area.
