Cattle markets show cows and bulls mostly steady to lower with feedlot steers and heifers trading in narrow ranges. Calves hogs and sheep move unevenly as buyers adjust. spring lambs peak near 26 to 27 dollars, hogs slip modestly with No 1-2 weights around 21.75.
Prices paid to country packing plants for eggs delivered to Ohio cities include U S grades with minimum 50 case lots. Large A cartons fetch 35 to 39 cents, medium 27 to 31, small 20 to 23. Retail carton prices near 40 to 41 for large, 33 to 34 for medium. Farm poultry prices show fryers 15 to 16 percent, hens 13 to 6 percent, potatoes 4.00 to 7.75.
The stock market opened with more losers than gainers as the New York Stock Exchange index eased. Occidental Petroleum fell to 52 1/2, AMK Corp down 1 at 84, National General down 1 1/2 at 74 2, Texas Gulf Sulphur down 1/2 at 46, and Boeing down 1/2 at 66 44 on the AP average of 60 stocks rising 1.4 to 342.2.
