Fire kills twenty in Saint John detention cellblock
Twenty prisoners died and fourteen were injured in a Saint John New Brunswick police detention cellblock fire late Tuesday night. Police spokesman Sgt. Bob Epton said the cause is not yet known and a report of padding in cell walls as a source is unconfirmed. The heat fused several cell door locks as prisoners who had recently been moved from the county jail faced the blaze.

Condition Deteriorating Karen Quinlan Near Death
Karen Quinlan remains near death thirteen months after life support was turned off with court approval. Her parents, Joseph and Julia Quinlan, visited from Morris Plains and others report the now 23 year old weighs about 60 pounds and shows only involuntary responses. The Roman Catholic priest administered the sacrament of the sick Tuesday night as doctors note she has not regained awareness.
