Three year old Holly Vogel missing since Thursday noon was found unharmed at Mount Airy Forest edge. Police officer father Richard Vogel hugged her as others reported scratches on her legs. She had remained in the woods overnight while a large search with hundreds of volunteers continued through the night.
The Senate was expected to swiftly approve a House passed bill granting President Johnson a 10 percent income tax surcharge. Johnson favored the measure but opposed a mandatory $6 billion federal spending cut. The surcharge would be retroactive from April 1 for individuals and January 1 for corporations and would expire June 30 next year unless extended.
A bill proposes a surcharge 15 days after presidential approval affecting individuals with over $1,000 taxable income and couples over $2,000. The measure would raise about $1.5 billion to improve the government’s fiscal outlook next year.
