U S and South Vietnamese forces clash across Vietnam with 43 Communists killed in the 1st Corps sector and 62 Viet Cong killed in two Da Nang south clashes. U S casualties 3 dead and 32 wounded while Marine posts at Con Thien Gio Linh suffer 120 rounds.
At the United Nations Britain and Egypt spearheaded the session as Soviet leader Podgorny visited Cairo. British Foreign Secretary George Brown urged a UN mediator for immediate peace talks with Israel and Arab states. Egypt pressed for unconditional Israeli withdrawal and other Arab goals.
The forecast calls for cloudy skies with warm humid air and thundershowers through Thursday. Nightly lows around mid 60s, highs in the 80s with 80s continuing Friday and Saturday. Moscow reports Premier Kosygin opened the Soviet case against Israel at the UN in New York while a Soviet plane carried blankets clothing tents and medicines to Arab refugees in Jordan for relief.
