Middletown Regional Hospital roots run back to 1917
Middletown Regional Hospital has served the city and surrounding area since March 5, 1917. The drive began after a deadly July 4, 1910 train crash north of West Middletown spurred local leaders to push for a hospital. A 1910-1915 fundraising drive gathered tens of thousands of dollars, purchased land, and laid the groundwork amid early opposition and delays from World War I and the Great Flood of 1913. The complex effort culminated in a 28 bed facility with initial private and public wards, with many later expansions envisioned.
