First radioactive waste shipments leave Ohio for Texas
The first of about 2,000 shipments of Cold War era radioactive waste left the Fernald plant northwest of Cincinnati for Andrews Texas. Two canisters hold roughly 20 000 pounds each of radioactive material mixed with fly ash and concrete. The move ends years of local opposition and follows a bid by Waste Control Specialists to store the waste under a nine to ten month shipping plan.

Budget and levy votes mark Trenton city budget debate
Hale's preliminary report finds sheriff costs for emergency calls undetermined as voters defeat a 1.5 mill fire services levy, saving about 220 000 annually. The city trimmed its budget by over 234 000, closed Fire Station 2 and Community Park, while a charter amendment passed and a tax credit shift reduced revenue. Ron Kash leads park preservation efforts amid park and station closures. City Council meets June 16 at 7 30 pm.
