Butler County youths rename heroes in Be Kind To Animals Week contest
In Butler County grade schools the Humane Association of Miami Valley held an Animal Tale contest. Pupils from grades 2 to 5 wrote essays portraying historic events from an animal perspective while critiquing human treatment of wildlife. Winners included Connie Bowling and others with prizes from 10 to 2.50 dollars.

The Middletown Campus of Miami University will run three eight week tennis courses starting June 7 on new Miami courts. Larry Goldsmith will teach beginners advanced beginners and intermediate groups with sessions on Monday mornings. Registration costs $30 paid at registration.

Officials take outrigger junket to Fiji trip from Tarawa
Gov. John Smith of the Gilbert Islands and Chief Minister Naboua Ratieta are due in Suva this week after a 1,200 mile voyage in a 50 foot outrigger from Tarawa. The trip began May 22 in a canoe built by New Zealander Jim Siers to prove such voyages existed before European seafarers reached the Pacific.
