In Ohio the cost of malpractice insurance could more than double affecting hospitals and physicians. Groups representing both sides say they are ready to fight the proposed rate increases.
Gov James A Rhodes signed two laws to boost emergency medical care in Ohio. One sets statewide ambulance personnel standards and aims to stabilize heart attack victims on scene. The other requires health dept to post choking rescue procedures in all food service establishments and mandate training.
The Council on Wage and Price Stability doubts the 68 million annual cost of proposed safety standards for matchbooks. It argues the rules by the Consumer Product Safety Commission raise prices and complicate use, urging further study of benefits versus costs. The agency cited hospital data on 9,500 injuries in fiscal 1975, mainly minor.
A blast at Plymouth Rock caused powder burns but did not move the historic granite boulder. Authorities said the rock with Pilgrims’ landing lore remained intact and undamaged beyond surface marks.
Police said a dynamite like blast created a hole near a rock under a masonry canopy on a beach. No injuries or damages to the rock were reported. Bomb squad from state police joined FBI and ATF investigators. A man claimed militant antibusing ties took responsibility for a separate gift shop fire at the Beavers replica in Boston harbor last week. No group tied to the blast was found.

About 3,000 Ohio Bell employees walk out in Cleveland protesting retail stores where customers pick and purchase phones. CWA Local 4309 President Jeffery Rechenbach says the wildcat strike affects installation work and operator assisted calls while management operates switchboards. The inter national union says the contract runs until August 1977.
