Barge Collision Leaves Montrose Crippled in Detroit River
A British freighter Montrose lay a shattered hulk in the Detroit River after colliding with a barge Monday night. Forty one crew members were rescued unharmed while the Montrose, 442 feet, settled on its port side near the Ambassador Bridge. Captain Ralph Eyre-Walker, Chief Engineer Richard Fowden, and First Mate Nathaniel Browlee remained aboard briefly to protect owner interests before being taken off.
