Helicopter Crash Kills 15 Near Chicago Cemetery

A helicopter carrying 13 people crashed near a Chicago suburb cemetery, with 15 dead overall. Seven American students were held by police in Moscow for distributing copies of the magazine Amerika from a car in front of the Metropole Hotel and released after about four hours. One student escaped and alerted the U S Embassy which negotiated their release.

About 50 students parked in their car in front of a hotel and passed out copies. A crowd formed with Russians and a hotel policeman who took the students into custody and escorted them into the hotel. An embassy spokesman said the students sought a phone call to the embassy but were refused. McGovern slipped away. The embassy said both groups were tourists, with four described as on an automobile camping tour of the Soviet Union.
