Idletown's 1972 year of action highlights public transit and mall
The city’s 1972 annual report details two major fires, a new public transit system, and downtown redevelopment progress. It notes increased property losses from fires, completed design drawings for the climate controlled mall, and 42 percent of acquisitions finished. The Weatherwax Golf Course opened, garbage collection shifted to Big M Trucking, and Roosevelt Boulevard eastward extension completed a 42 mile east west corridor. City Manager Dale Helsel calls 1972 a year of action as plans on the drawing board moved forward.

City planners weigh Marshall Road alignment for school playfield
The city, school board, and Jay Gee Inc. discussed a 45 acre parcel south of the school for a proposed playfield. Webb opposed a southward road extension, urging the board keep land for school use while Metz said Jay Gee might swap land to enlarge the board property. The Planning Commission approved the Duff Brothers Realty Co. subdivision plan pending final alignment of S Marshall Road within 30 days.
