Hijacked Passengers Wait as Plane Sits in Dubai

Hijackers demanded the release of Kozo Okamoto, a Japanese Red Army member serving a life term in Israel for the Lod airport massacre. A cousin of Crown Princess Michiko was aboard, among 123 passengers and 22 crew. The Boeing 747 sat at Dubai's desert airstrip under 100 degree heat as talks continued and food was supplied.

Moran crowned Miss Universe in Athens pageant

White House shuts de bugged meeting recording system

Officials said a two year old system that recorded Nixon meetings and conversations was de activated after testimony by former White House aide Alexander Butterfield. Sources said the move aimed to prevent people from being inhibited in talking to Nixon. The Baltimore Sun and Chicago Tribune cited sources that the equipment would be removed after deactivation.
