Police probe into the kidnapping and killings of Mansfield reformatory chief John Niebel his wife and daughter Phyllis. autopsy and fingerprint work guide the investigation as authorities confirm two guns were used and a third bullet may be recovered.
President supports the Marshall Plan assessment on Berlin and will consult with General Clay and the Secretary of State. The world situation will not be outlined in the forthcoming message to Congress.
Berlin reporting notes two American military policemen, Dwinnel of Mabton WA and Hunt of Camp Ohio, were arrested by a Russian patrol after entering the Soviet zone by mistake while on patrol in Berlin. They were escorted to Soviet headquarters as German police alerted U.S. authorities.

London AP reports Foreign Secretary Bevin states Britain will not back down on demands to lift the Russian Berlin blockade before four power talks. He argues troops are cut off and 2.5 million people pressured governments. Washington prepares a new note reaffirming Western unity and seeks Moscow’s response.
Senator Glen Taylor of Idaho said Pink Communists may support the New Party and he would not renounce their backing. He argued few Communists are active in Wallace’s movement and distinguished Pink from Red Communists while noting it is hard to bar all Communists from support. The remarks came as ADA accused Communists of using the party as a tool amid its first convention in Philadelphia.
