The Colorado Supreme Court ruled 4-3 that news media have no right to publish accidentally released transcripts from a closed hearing in Kobe Bryant's sexual assault case. The ruling, while upholding a trial judge's contempt threat, preserves a narrowly justified prior restraint to prevent release of sensitive testimony about the accuser and compensation evidence. Bryant, 25, denies the felony sexual assault charge from a Vail area resort incident and could face four years to life in prison if convicted.
