Apollo and Soyuz undocked after 47 hours 17 minutes of joint experiments and television broadcasts. Commander Stafford and cosmonauts Leonov Kubasov watched as the two ships drifted apart and prepared for separate reentries, while a musical farewell and light shows punctuated the split.

A four year old Kentucky boy, Mark Popovich II of Alexandria, died after the car he rode in was struck by a Covington police cruiser on an emergency run near Cincinnati. The father, driver of the car, and the boy's two year old sister were unhurt.
The Ethiopian government said on Saturday that two Americans were kidnapped by rebels near Addis Ababa, prompting concerns over regional security and further investigations into the incident.
A 2.8 million grant from the Urban Mass Transit Administration funds the first phase of a 12 million Union Terminal renovation. Funds will buy land and design a maintenance and repair facility for Queen City Metro in the terminal’s lower level, while preserving goals for a performing arts school and Amtrak use.
In Belgrade area sixteenth people died and 37 were injured when an express train collided head on with a local train at Zemun station. Authorities say human error and a delayed baggage unloading contributed to the disaster. The engineer and a station official were detained for questioning.
