William Verity, Armco Steel chairman and founder's grandson, praised the civic industry bond as a "marriage" between Middletown and Armco on the eve of the companys 75th anniversary. About 450 attended a Manchester Inn banquet hosted by the Middletown Area Chamber of Commerce.
Local residents and Armco employees can still join this afternoon and tomorrow for tours of the General Offices, new International Building, Research Department, and Information Center. An antique and futuristic car exhibit runs to 3 pm, with film showings at the Celebration Center to 6 pm. Afternoon and noon Sunday events include refreshments in the Anniversary Garden and seedling pines. Prominent speakers praise Armco's role in Middletown and its community partnership, while a stainless steel plaque honors the company’s civic service.
Weather in the Middletown area shows clear skies with the low in the mid-50s tonight and partly cloudy skies with highs in the 70s Sunday. The extended outlook calls for a chance of showers Monday through Wednesday.
