Nixon refuses to testify or turn over papers in Watergate case

President Nixon says he will not testify before the Senate Watergate committee nor allow access to presidential papers, citing the separation of powers. He agrees to allow unrestricted testimony by White House staff but maintains confidentiality of presidential records. Spokesmen said documents can be perused but not removed.

Rains hit Gulf States and cooler air sweeps in

Thunderstorms dumped up to five inches across the Gulf States with flooding in Shreveport as 3.46 inches fell. Pacific Northwest and Rockies saw cooler air while the central plains cooled by up to 20 degrees. Highs ranged from 57 in Port Angeles to 105 in Garden City.
