Weekend Warriors of Patrol Squadron 741 sail overseas mission
The Navy Air Reserve unit from Jacksonville Florida, Patrol Squadron 741, completed a 14 day patrol and anti submarine exercise tour across 13 overseas bases on 16 000 miles in five P2V Neptunes and one R5D. Led by Capt John L Counihan and Cmdr Charles W Rogers the crew stopped at Bermuda Azores Morocco Lisbon Malta Athens Istanbul Naples Rome Marseilles London Iceland Newfoundland and Washington DC with an engine problem delay at Gibraltar. Activated March 1 195? the unit served six months at Malta in 1952 before deactivation February 15 1953 in Jacksonville.
