The Public Health Service released about 300 000 shots of Salk polio vaccine tested under new standards. It is the first release since June 6 and was produced by Wyeth Laboratories of Marietta Pa. The release raises total available vaccine to 1 837 000 cc since adopting the revised standards. Prior total since April 12 was about nine million cc. Each shot uses one cc. The service outlined a developmental research program for improving polio vaccines and assigned scientists to six manufacturers to visit plants and speed information exchange.
Two Cincinnati men, Samuel Bolling, 47, and Samuel Bolling Jr., 24, died when their rain slicked pickup skidded into a tree on the Steubenville Pike near Hopedale. A 7-year-old girl, Rose Marie Bolling, was seriously injured and hospitalized. Investigators said the Bollings were moving from Cincinnati to Pittsburgh.
The Coast Guard called off a search for the ship reported sinking off the New Jersey coast after a radiotelephone distress claim from The Blue Star proved to be a hoax. No wreckage was found aside from a defective life preserver and an old slick near the reported area.
In Detroit FBI agents arrested 27 year old Louis Emery Teller and 17 year old Lora Lee Ritenour in a midnight raid on an apartment building after a nationwide manhunt. They were linked to the January 14 Cleveland Trust Co robbery and face federal bank robbery charges plus fugitive warrants. Ritenour is also wanted in Akron for an armed holdup.
After yesterday’s shower Middletown endures continued heat and humidity. Official forecast calls for cloudy skies today and Saturday with likely scattered storms. Yesterday’s high reached 88 and the low was 73. rainfall totaled 1.05 inches. A half inch of rain fell in 15 minutes Thursday afternoon.

They pressed for a U N seat for Communist China and a peaceful solution to Germany and Taiwan issues. They plan exchanges to boost trade and hope the Geneva Four will improve the international situation.

Police hunted a killer described as a mad dog after the body of 8 year old Mary Manzo was found under a railroad viaduct on Chicago's South Side. Authorities said the girl was burned and likely sexually assaulted before death and held a suspect for questioning.
About 1.2 million Chilean workers resumed work today as the CUT threatened an unlimited walkout over higher pay. A 24 hour stoppage supported wage protests by 40,000 rail bus and communications workers who have been out eight days amid soaring living costs. Copper industry workers remained on the job.

Dallas prisoner James Curtis 28 said his main work is shooting dice while being arraigned on narcotics charges. U S Commissioner W M Hill questioned his certainty and Curtis replied he only plays with his dice to ensure a win.
St Louis test pilot Albert Seawell Jr., 33, died when his Demon fighter crashed on a golf course near Bellerive Country Club after attempting to steer away from a road and Mount Providence School grounds. He radioed he could not gain altitude shortly after takeoff from Lambert-St. Louis Airport.
