Giants Orioles Build Long Hanging Nests in Tropics
In Central and South American tropics giant orioles form colonies with nests over four feet long hanging from limbs. Females do most nest building while males shuttle materials. Costa Rica and Guatemala report large colonies with dozens of nests in single trees, some nests six feet long with a 12 inch chamber near the base.
