Troop linked to King killer case on black ministers target

Dayton Journal Herald reports Marcus Wayne Chenault belonged to a small Dayton area group called The Troop that criticizes black ministers as political pimps and seeks punishment for misleading the community. Senate report ties Hunt to CIA help before Watergate break in

A Senate Watergate committee report says in the months before the June 1972 break in Howard Hunt Jr asked CIA bosses to direct him to retired agents skilled in lock picking and burglary. The document questions CIA denial of any contact after Aug 21 1971 and notes the CIA official who supplied information retired a day after arrests. The Baker report urges continued CIA oversight probes.

Butterfield Leads Final Phase In Nixon Impeachment Inquiry

Alexander P. Butterfield the former White House appointments secretary testifies behind closed doors on the Watergate chain of command as part of the impeachment inquiry. The Judiciary Committee plans to probe 10 witnesses before July 12 deliberations while Leon Jaworski argues against naming Nixon as an unindicted coconspirator to the Supreme Court.

Widow now president as Peron dies in Argentina

Argentina enters a two day farewell to President Juan Peron who died of a heart attack. His 43 year old widow Isabel Peron becomes acting president as the nation mourns and flags fly at half staff. A state funeral is set for Wednesday and burial will occur at Chacarita cemetery in Buenos Aires.

Jaworski disputes advisory role in grand jury finding Nixon co conspirator

In a Supreme Court brief Jaworski denies advising the Watergate grand jury to name Nixon as an unindicted co conspirator. He contends the grand jury, not the prosecutor, made the determination, while St Clair argues the special prosecutor may have influenced the finding to strengthen litigation.
