Parallel Fates: Ohio Governors Face Similar Woes Across Centuries
A retrospective compares Gov. John Gilligan and Gov. Thomas Worthington, linking 19th century welfare and education reforms to modern state priorities. It notes Worthington’s early calls for prison reform and public schools, and Gilligan’s continued push for education aid and industrial expansion amid ongoing welfare costs. The piece also references Ohio’s first governor Edward Tiffin and wartime contexts from 1812 to Vietnam.
