Deadly tornadoes strike four states leaving 11 dead

In Dixie a fast moving storm spawned deadly tornadoes across four states. McComb Mississippi suffered the worst damage with four dead and 115 injured as 300 homes were ruined. Other towns including Ruth Pell City Ragland and Lake Charles reported deaths and injuries as residents faced widespread destruction. Governor Bill Waller called for disaster declarations amid ongoing search and recovery efforts.

Ford pledges fast action on about 15 billion tax cut

Soyuz 17 reaches earth orbit toward Salyut 4 link up

Soviet cosmonauts Lt. Col. Alexei Gubarev and Georgy Grechko reported all systems normal as Soyuz 17 lifted from Baikonur and entered orbit. Television showed them aboard in good spirits saying they would work, with eight hours of orbiting already completed and a plan to conduct joint experiments with Salyut 4.

Sohio Workers Walk Out At Toledo Ohio Refinery

Supervisory staff ran the Standard Oil Ohio refinery in Oregon after a walkout by workers over stalled contract talks. Police and deputies were called Friday after picket clashes damaged cars. some supervisors reported minor injuries, though police reported no arrests. Plant operated normally by supervisors. Local 7346 OCW said talks stalled and a few members sparked the walkout.

Harris May Seek 1976 Democratic Presidential Nomination

Former Sen. Fred Harris of Oklahoma plans to announce his candidacy for the 1976 Democratic nomination. He will hold a news conference in Concord New Hampshire to enter the New Hampshire primary. Rabin Warns Soviet Aims May Hinder Middle East Peace

Israeli Prime Minister Yitzhak Rabin warned in a Jerusalem interview that the Soviet Union seeks to keep tensions in the Middle East. He said peace requires direct talks with Arab states and that Israel will exchange land only if a true peace structure is created. Rabin cautioned Western powers against a weak Israel and reiterated no return to pre 1967 borders.
