Inaugural plans shift as crowd estimates rise
Columbus officials report changes to the inauguration schedule and venue for Gov. Gilligan's swearing in. The Neil House Hotel was replaced by the Lausche Building at the state fairgrounds for the Monday dinner, then moved to the larger Lausche Building. Invitations total about 35,900 for a free public ceremony expected to draw up to 50 000 people with Chief Justice O Neill presiding. Lancione says 1 200 to 2 500 attend dinner at 100 a plate and as many as 5 000 at the ball. The event is funded by the state Democratic Party with no public funds.

Tax System A Relic Says OSU Economist
Columbus AP The Citizens Task Force on Tax Reform resumes hearings at the State House with testimony from Dr. Donald J. Curran of Cleveland State University. OSU’s Fred Stocker and Miami University’s George Thatcher say Ohio’s tax system is a relic of 1930s low mood years, heavy on property taxes and unable to fund growing needs including education. They urge public education on revenue needs and a tax overhaul to align with growth and income across Ohio. Jacob Davis of Cincinnati chairs the panel, aiming to finish hearings within two weeks and deliver a final report to Gov.-elect Gilligan by February 15.
