Priest Seeks School Credit for Church Religious Instruction
In Hamilton New York the Rev John Carey pastor of St Marys Church seeks quarter credit per semester for religious instruction at his church during school hours. The school board voted 3 2 against granting credit citing lack of control over content. James Jones board president and a Baptist member supported the Catholic request but the tie breaking vote kept the plan from approval. Carey said he only teaches what Jesus taught 1900 years ago.
