In New Delhi AP reports India's ruling Congress party headed for its worst state election performance in years. Of 1569 seats decided in 3560 total, Congress won 809 seats, about 51 percent, far from the 61 percent average in 1962. Prime Minister Indira Gandhi avoided comment on the national results, noting reverses in some areas and saying life has ups and downs.
New Orleans district attorney Jim Garrison suggested Davis Ferrie, a pilot and self described detective, held key information on Kennedy's assassination before dying in bed. The coroner cited a massive brain hemorrhage with no signs of suicide, though an unsigned note hinted at death being a sweet prospect. Ferrie had been slated to be questioned as the probe pressed beyond the Warren commission.
